MIST is a registered Association, under the laws of the District of Columbia, with members from industry, government and academia.  It has been granted exemption from federal taxation under IRS Code 501(c)(3).

The governing body of the Institute is its Board of Directors, whose members represent leadership positions in industry, academia and regional economic development.

An Executive Director has been appointed, who serves at the pleasure of the Board to implement the MIST mission.

Business of the Institute is conducted through standing committees of the Board.  Each of these committees is chaired by a member of the Board of Directors and is comprised of selected members whose expertise and interest serve the charter of the Committee.
